Make an easy sketchbook with scraps

How-to| Book making
August 13, 2024•1 min read

Materials

  • A few pieces of paper (can just be copy paper)

  • Thick paper, cardstock or just an empty cereal/pizza box

  • Ribbon, rope or thread

  • Knife and cutting mat or a pair of scissors

  • Punch or corkscrew

  • Ruler

Instructions

  • Fold your papers in half

  • Slide them into a bundle

  • Measure the papers and add half an inch or a centimeter or 2 to the measurements

  • Draw these measurements on the empty pizza box

  • Cut the shape and fold it in half so it becomes a cover

  • Punch 3 holes in the paper bundle and do the same with the cover, so they line up

  • Get a thread or ribbon and sew the pieces together.

  • First go from the outside through the middle hole

  • Go to the left hole from the inside out

  • Pull the ribbon tight so it will hold the book together, but not to tight to tear the papers

  • Go from the hole on the opposite side back from the outside in

  • Go back through the middle hole from the inside out

  • Make sure one end is on one side of the spine and the other on the opposite side.

  • Now you can make a knot to tie the ends together across the spine.

  • Your skethbook is ready

  • If you want to add something extra feel free to do so. This is your sketchbook!
