About Anna

Anna

I am Anna

I quickly notice what is happening. In images, in materials, in people, in ideas. Sometimes useful. Sometimes exhausting.

I am present and talk easily, but taking up space on my own doesn't come naturally.

A lot happens on the inside, even when that isn't always visible on the outside. Making helps with that.

Not to make it quiet, but to do something with it.

how i got here

I didn't always know I was an artist

I thought art was for people who knew what they were doing.

I was always creative, but I just did things.

At some point, I realised: this is exactly how I need to do it.

Not knowing, but doing. Seeing what emerges.

Now I don't know any other way.

how i am

I am genuinely curious

Creativity starts with curiosity. I truly believe that.

Not the kind of curiosity that disappears quickly, but the kind that stays.

In my work. In how I look. In what I pick up and keep. Until it lands somewhere.

how i work

I like structure

But only when it gives me more freedom.

The moment it feels tight, I break it open.

I look for ways in which things work without getting stuck. That goes for my work and for how I move through life.

I live with Jochem, daughter Niene, and dog Sky in Zaltbommel, and we're off in our camper whenever we can.

There is always paint on something that shouldn't have paint on it. My studio never looks tidy, but it always calms me down.

Present

In the studio, and outside. Always looking, always gathering.

Making

Paint, paper, found materials. Everything is welcome. Nothing has to be anything.

Searching

For as long as it takes until something lands. Not out of perfectionism, but out of curiosity.

"The rest is in the work and in everything that is yet to emerge."
